MXGP of Portugal - Agueda
A challenging weekend full of obstacles
This past weekend, Julius Mikula lined up for the MXGP World Championship round in Águeda, Portugal. The qualifying race already hinted at a tough challenge ahead—Julius was pushing to break into the top 10 and score his first points, but after a crash, he ended the session in 21st place.
Both Saturday and Sunday brought extremely demanding conditions. Following heavy rainfall, the track turned into a muddy, slippery battlefield. The rain returned overnight and continued into Sunday's races, putting every rider's skill to the test.
In the first moto, Julius had an unfortunate start, but he showed true fighting spirit and worked his way up to an impressive 8th place finish. In the second moto, he maintained a strong pace and hovered around 13th position. However, due to poor visibility, he had to stop in the "goggle lane" to change his goggles, costing him several positions. Toward the end of the race, he began experiencing stomach cramps and eventually crossed the finish line in 16th place.
The overall result in Águeda secured him 12th place and a valuable 18 points in the World Championship standings!
Saturday morning started on a very fast and smooth track. The surface remained hard and tight, as rain was expected. Both free and timed practices took place in dry conditions, but just before the qualifying race, the rain came—and Portugal turned into a mud race, just like last year. In the qualifying race, I was running around 12th place, but after a crash, I dropped back and finished 21st.
On Sunday, the track was extremely muddy. In the first moto, I finished in a solid 8th place. In the second moto, I had a good pace at the beginning, but due to poor strategy and fatigue, I dropped to 15th. Overall, I finished 12th.
Huge thanks to my team and everyone who supports me!
